_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*THE ADAAB OF EARNING LIVELIHOOD.*
know verily that, Allah Subuhanahu wata’ala out of His wisdom, Has placed this dunya as a place for man to seek his livelihood, at times for this world, and another time for the Hereafter.
Thus, in this chapter, we will deal with the Adaab of earning livelihood be it businesses, crafting or manufacturing.
*VIRTUES OF EARNING.*
Allah Azzawajal says:
_”وجعلنا النهار معاشا[ النبأ:١١]_
We made the Day as means of sustenance.” An-Naba:11).
Allah Azzawajal also says:
_”وجعلنا لكم فيها معايش قليلا ما تشكرون”_[الأعراف:١٠ ]
We have placed you therein means of sustenance, little are the gratitude that you give. (suratu Al-Aa’raf:10).
In addition, Allah also says:
_” ليس عليكم جناح أن تبتغوا فضلا من ربكم”_
_” It is not a crime if you seek of the bounty of Your Lord.”_ Al-Baqarah:198.
The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
_”ما أكل أحد طعاما قط خير من أن يأكل من عمل يده، وإن نبي الله داود كان يأكل من عمل يده”_
No one has ever eaten food better than what his hand earns, for verily, the prophet of Allah Dawud used to eat from what His hand earns.

Lastly, it was said to Imaam Ahmad Rahimahullahu:
“What can you say about a person restricting himself only to his house or mosque and said: I would not do anything till my sustenance comes to me?
Imaam Ahmad replied by saying:
” This man lacks knowledge, doesn’t he listen to the statement of the Prophet of Allah sallallaahu alayhi wasallam where He said:
_”إن الله جعل رزقي تحت ظل رمحي_”
_”Verily, Allah Has placed my sustenance under my spear.”_
