_Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-_
Said:
And amongst them are those who restrict themselves on knowledge which has to do with politics, deductions and all the necessities of the dunya relationship between people for the maslaha of their existence.
Meanwhile, they have apparently neglect their major responsibilities and fall into some despicable acts, be it backbiting, looking at haram, walking towards it, and they didn’t safeguard nor protect their heart from arrogance, envy, showoff, and the rest of the fallacies.
Thus, these people are lured from two major angles which are:
From the side of their actions and knowledge.
Hence, their similitude is as though a sick person who knows a particular medicine to cure his disease. However, he didn’t take the drug. Rather, he busied himself mentioning the name of the drug and acquitting himself with it.
And another similitude of theirs is as though a person who took intoxicant and was almost near to his death. Instead of him to hasten to rectify his disease to save himself from death, but he chose to busy and divert himself with knowing the treatment for menstruation and was constantly repeating the name of the drug. Thus, this act of his, is the peak of foolishness and deception.
These deceptions and foolishness are caused due to the poor understanding of fiqh and its importance and lack of knowing that, fiqh also comprises knowing Allāh, His attributes, fearing Him and hoping for His infinite mercy so that by so doing, Taqwah can be attained.
Lastly, the most important knowledge is to know the nature of the path to Allāh Ta’āla, and to uproot the obstacles which block the heart from such deep understanding amongst the blameworthy characters because they serve as barrier between a servant and Allāh Ta’āla.
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
