Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
The Meaning of Longing For Allāh Ta’āla.
Know that, longing for Allāh is a fruit of love for Him, for whoever loves a thing, he longs for it.
Also know that, the wonders of Allāh are limitless, some are known to some people. While the knowledgeable person is aware of all their existence even though they are not known to him. And he knows that the hidden ones are far greater than the apparent ones.
A pious servant will continue to long for Allāh and the first state of the longing ends in the Hereafter with seeing Allāh Ta’āla.
It was reported that the Rasūl Salallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam taught a man some supplication, and commanded him to stick to it everyday by saying:
أسألك اللهم الرضا بعد القضاء، وبرد العيش بعد الموت، ولذة النظر إلى وجهك، وشوقا إلى لقائك
“O Lord, I ask You pleasure with Your Decree; prosperity after death; the delight of beholding You and a longing for You.”
