The perfected Elements.

Oh beloved Son, As for those which can be explained through writings, Alhamdulillahi, we have already dealt with that in details in the book Ihyāu ‘Ulūmu Ad-dīn, but we will just mention them in summary.

Know that, it is wājib upon a servant to know four major matters:

1). To have a sound Aqīdah which is free of innovation.

2). To make a sincere repentance.

3). To return the right of others to their owners.

4). To seek basic knowledge of the Dīn which is of Fard ‘Īn.

Hence, any addition to these is not wājib. Hence, beware of knowledge which is unnecessary.

In this context, it was reported that Hātim Al-Asam was amongst the closed students of Shaykh Shaqīq Al-Bilkhī Rahimahullāhu Ta’āla. One day, Shaykh Shaqīq asked:

You have been with me for thirty years, what have you learnt? He replied: I learnt eight important matters which are enough for me to attain prosperity in this Dunya and the next life. Shaqīq asked: what are they?

Hātim said:

1). I checked the nature of people, I realised that they all have beloved ones. Amongst them are those who are accompanied by their love ones in every matters even when they are on their sickbed or on the coffin to their grave. However, they will be left alone in the grave and none amongst those loved ones will sacrifice a day to stay with the corpse in his grave. Then I understand that, the best lovers in real sense to a servant are his good deeds which will accompany him in his grave. Hence, I attached my heart to my best lover which are my good deeds so that they may serve as light in my grave and to keep me in accompany.

2). I saw people rushing towards their whims and desires. Then I pondered on the verse where Allāh Ta’āla says:

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِ وَنَهَى النَّفْسَ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ
فَإِنَّ الْجَنَّةَ هِيَ الْمَأْوَىٰ

And as for him who fears to stand in the presence of his Lord and forbids the soul from low desires, Then surely the garden is his abode

Therefore, I hasten to go against my desires and struggle to purify it from vices till it became pleased with the obedience of Allāh Ta’āla.

Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.

10th Ramadhān, 1441H.
