_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
The recitation of the glorious Qur’an and pondering over it brings about tranquillity in one’s heart and one’s way of life, and the Qur’an and wa’dh and the poetry of zuhd have not been made difficult and narrow that we would need to resort to singing, though, we didn’t say that there is no benefit in songs at all. But, the benefits are little and it fade away within a short time and most of the parts of the songs brings about desires to the heart and mischievous acts.
The similitude of someone who wants to use it(i.e songs) as a means towards Hereafter, is like someone who said: I will look towards a beardless person in order to ponder over what Allāh Has created, for verily, he has missed way in attaining his goal. For when looking, he would be preoccupied with his desires and by so doing, he won’t be able to ponder.
In this case, one will forbid him and advise him to meditate on where Allāh, The most High says:
“أفلم ينظروا إلى السماء فوقهم كيف بنيناها وزيناها”
Do they not look at the sky above them? How we have made it and adorned it, and there are no gaps in it?
*SURATU QĀF, VERSE 6.*
Thus, whosoever claims falsely that songs doesn’t agitate his desires the way it does for others, he is just claiming for what is against the nature, therefore, one should not listen to his claims nor follow his misconception.
