_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*THE RIGHTS OF BROTHERHOOD.*
Know verily that, in relationship between fellow Muslims, there are rights that are encouraged by the sharia to be fulfilled. Amongst those rights are;
*1*. Fulfilling the needs of a Muslim.
One is highly encouraged in the sharia to fulfill the needs of his brothers willingly and happy. And this is done whether they requested for it or not and one should prefer his brother’s needs over his, for this is a very important quality of a good believer.
*2*. Overlooking his shortcomings.
One is recommended to overlook the errors of his brother and one should not expose his fault nor irritate him whether in his present or absent. One should not always ask his brother where he is heading to, may be, he might not want to disclose that to one.
And it is imperative one should know that, no one is hundred percent good. But what is expected is that, the good side of a person should supersede that of his bad side.
In this context, Ibn Al Mubārak Rahimahullāh was reported to have said:
_”المؤمن يطلب المعاذير، والمنافق يطلب الزلات”_
_” A believer seeks excuses(for his brothers) while a munāfiq seeks errors(of his brothers).”_
And one should not have bad thought of his brothers, rather, one should think good about them. For our beloved Messenger sallallāhu alayhi wasallam was reported to have said:
_”إياكم والظن فإن الظن أكذب الحديث”_
_”Beware of suspicion, for verily, suspicion is the worst of false tales.”_
Transmitted and recorded by Imām Al Bukhārī in his ‘Sahih’#5143 and Imām Muslim in his ‘Sahih’#2563.
Lastly, one cannot attain high status in the side of Allāh, The Almighty until one loves for his brother what he loves for himself. Verily, everyone loves his shortcomings and secret to be covered by his brother. Then, why should one expose that of his Muslim brothers?
In this regard, Allāh says:
_”الذين إذا اكتالوا على الناس يستوفون(٢) وإذا كالوهم أو وزنوهم يخسرون”_
_”Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, exact full measure. But when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due.”_
Suratu Al Mutaffifin, verse 2-3.
