_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*RIGHTS OF BROTHERHOOD.*
Know verily that, one of the worst ways which bring about envy, hatred and rancour between Muslims is spreading and exposing their shortcomings. Thus, perpetuating such act is completely forbidden in the sharia.
*3*. Saying what pleases his brother.
The way it is wājib for one to shun away from harming his Muslims brothers with his tongue, likewise it is beloved that one say that which will make his brother happy. And that can be done by expressing one’s happiness with his good condition and progress in life. And one should not also feel shy to express his love for his brother. In this context, the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
_”إذا أحب أحدكم أخاه فليعلمه”_
_”If one of you loves his brother, he should inform him.”_
Transmitted and recorded by Imām At-Tirmidhi#(7/71). Shaykh Al Albāni declared it as Sahih in ‘Assilsilatu Assahihah’#417.
And of it, one should call his brother with the best name he likes.
Úmar radiyallāhu anhu was reported to have said:
_”ثلاث يصفين لك ود أخيك: تسىلم عليه إذا لقيته، وتوسع له في المجلس، وتدعوه بأحب أسمائه إليه”_
_”Three things brings about good relations with your brother; making salam to him on meeting him, providing a space for him to sit in the Majlis, and calling him with the best name he loves. “_
And of it, one should praise him because of his good character, deeds, thinking and knowledge. And there is nothing bad in praising his families and children. However, one should not pass the limit in praising him nor praise him for what he is not worthy of.
And lastly, one should hasten to defend his brother whether in his present or absent. For the Messenger of Allāh sallallāhu alayhi wasallam said in a Hadith reported by Ibn Úmar Radiyallāhu anhumah;
_”المسلم أخو المسلم لا يظلمه ولا يسلمه”_
_” A Muslim is a brother to a Muslim, he doesn’t oppress him nor hand him over(to his enemy). “_
Transmitted and recorded by Imām Al Bukhārī in his ‘Sahih’#2442 and Imām Muslim in his ‘Sahih’#2580.
