The Signs of Good Character

📬 DAILY POST#405

_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:

*THE SIGNS OF GOOD CHARACTERS.*

Know verily – may the mercy of Allāh be upon you – that, some of devout worshippers thinks that by only shunning away and purifying themselves from sins and fawāsh without training themselves on the rest of the attributes of believers suffices them, hence they need not to strive again.

But this is not the case. For by combining all the attributes of the believers makes one to attain purification and high status in the side of Allāh Azzawajal.

In this context, Allāh says in the glorious Qur’an regarding the attributes of the believers:

_Those only are believers whose hearts become full of fear when Allah is mentioned, and when His communications are recited to them they increase them in faith, and in their Lord do they trust._

_Those who keep up prayer and spend (benevolently) out of what We have given them._

_These are the believers in truth; they shall have from their Lord exalted grades and forgiveness and an honorable sustenance._

*Suratu Al-Anfāl, verse 2-4.*

Allāh also says;

_They who turn (to Allah), who serve (Him), who praise (Him), who fast, who bow down, who prostrate themselves, who enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil, and who keep the limits of Allah; and give good news to the believers._

*Suratu At-tawbah, verse 112.*

And He says in another verse;

_”Indeed, successful are the believers.”_ To where Allah says;

_These are they who are the heirs._

*Suratu Al-Mu’minūn, verse 1-10.*

And again, Allāh says;

_”And the servants of the Beneficent Allah are those who walk on the earth in humbleness, and when the ignorant address them, they say: Peace.”_

*Suratu Al-Furqān, verse 63.*

Thus, whosoever his characters looks obscured to him – whether bad or good – then, then he should checkmate himself with the above verses, if he find all the attributes mentioned in the above verses in his characters, then it is a sign that he has good characters.

However, if the attributes mentioned in the above verses are absent completely in his behaviors, then it is a sign that he has bad characters.

But, if he has some of the attributes and lacks some of them, then, he should hasten to safeguard the ones he has and seek for the ones he lacks.

*25th Rabī’u Ath-thāni, 1438H.*

Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
