The Three Stages of Human

📬 DAILY POST#451

_Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullāh-_
Said:

Know verily – may the blessings of Allāh be upon you – that, every human have three stages that he/she must pass through.

The first stage is when one was nothing and one doesn’t exist in this dunya.

The Second stage which is the most dangerous stage because it detects the faith of the third stage, is the period one spends in this dunya.

Third stage, is the time after death to one’s permanent destination, either life of eternity in Paradise or Hell.

Therefore, if one compare the life one spend in this dunya to that after death, one will see it as little and insignificant. Thus, one shouldn’t waste his time for temporary journey which can come to an end at anytime.

Rather, one should hasten and fasten to that which is greater and better, and that’s the Hereafter. For in it, there is no death and it is an eternal life.

Moreover, Whosoever looks at the dunya from this angle will never waste his time in it’s pursuit nor incline to it and will never care regarding the pain and suffering or luxuries and status he/she has attained because he/she believes that it is short life not permanent.

For this reason, the Messenger sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam never waste his time in it(i.e dunya) nor build mansion here and there. Rather, ‘Abdullāh Ibn Mashu’d radiyallāhu anhu reported the Messenger sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam saying:

_The Messenger of Allah sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam slept upon a mat, then he stood, and the mat had left marks on his side. We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! We could get a bed for you.’ He said: ‘What do I have to do with the world! I am not in the world but as a rider seeking shade under a tree, then he catches his breath and leaves it._

Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhi#2377. Shaykh Al-Albāni declared it as Sahih in ‘Assahīhah’#439.

Also, Ī’sa ‘alayhissalatu wasallam was reported to have said:

_The dunya is just like a gateway, therefore, hasten to pass through it and do not settle in it._

This is clear example, for the dunya is a passage to the Hereafter not a dwelling. Hence, no need of taking as a settlement.

The first pillar of the gateway is when one was given bath to. while the grave is the second pillar towards the end of the gateway.

Amongst people are those that have reached the middle of the gateway, and amongst them are those that have reach two third of the gateway, and of them, are those that it remains just a step forward to get to the end of the gateway while they are heedless of it. Whereas, there is no doubt they must pass through it.

Therefore, whosoever exhausts his time and energy building on the gateway and decorating it knowing fully that he will soon pass through it, he is indeed the peak of the ignorant and foolish ones.
