_Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-_
Said:
*THE VIRTUES OF SEEKING FOR HALAL AND SHUNNING AWAY FROM HARAM.*
Know verily that, Allah, the Almighty Has commanded His beloved Messenger sallallaahu alayhi wasallam and the believers to seek for *Halal* and refrain from *Haram*. Amongst those verses are;
Allah says:
_(يا أيها الرسل كلوا من الطيبات واعملوا صالحا)_
_(O You Messenger! Eat from what is pure and do righteous deeds…)_
Suratu Al Mu’minu: 51.
Attayyibaat in the above means Halal, thus, Allah commanded Halal things before working righteousness.
And Allah says in warning against Haram:
_(ولا تأكلوا أموالكم بينكم بالباطل)_
_”Do not eat your wealth amongst yourselves for vanities”_
Suratu Al Baqarah:188.
And many other verses which shows the virtues of halal and prohibits Haram can be found in the Glorious Qur’an.
Furthermore, to show the important of seeking for halal things, it is reported from Abu Hurairah Radiyallaahu anhu who said_ The Messenger sallallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“O people, verily, Allah is pure, and He therefore, does not accept except only that which is pure. And verily, Allah commanded the believers as He commanded the Messenger by saying,( O Messenger, eat of the good things, and do good deeds; verily I am aware of what you do). Suratu Al Mu’minun:51.)
And He said, (O You who believe, eat of the good things that We gave you).
Suratu Al-Baqarah: 172).
He then mentioned a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky and says: “O lord, O lord,” whereas his diet is *Haram*, his drink is *Haram*, his clothes are *Haram*, and his nourishment is *Haram.*
How can then his supplication be *accepted*?
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Muslim in his ‘Sahih#1015.
The past predecessors used to be very careful with what they eat so that they won’t fall into Haram. For Abu Bakr radiyallaahu anhu was reported to have ate something. However, Doubting its legality, he forcibly vomited it out.
*5th Muharram, 1438.*
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
