Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh- said:
Know that, it is recommended for the physician which is the ‘Ālim to know the disease, and to know the way for its treatment, for a man was reported to have asked the Prophet Sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam that:
Advise me! The prophet sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam replied by saying:
_Do not become angry._

What has been mentioned is the treatment for heedlessness, what’s left is the treatment for desires, and the path for their treatment may be taken from what we mentioned in the book ” Riyādatu An-nafs”(Exercising the Soul)., and patient is highly required, for one’s disease may prolong for adding that which are harmful, and this is as a result of strong desires, or heedlessness.
Thus, there is doubt, one has to taste the bitterness of patience, likewise in this case of treating the desire of a sin, like a youth who is overwhelmed with desires to the extent that he cannot safeguard his sight, heart, organs from lawful desires, then he should remind himself of the threatening verses which came in the Book of Allāh Ta’āla, and the Sunnah of His Rasūl sallallāhu ‘alayhi wasallam, for if his fear increases, he will surely protect himself from the means that agitate his desires.
It is the presence of desires and looking at it that agitates desires, and its cure is: hunger, continuous fasting, and these cannot be achieved except with Patience, and what leads to patience is fear, and fear is not acquired except through a sound knowledge and pure sightedness.
The first thing which is of Paramount importance is attending the gathering of Zikr, and listening with a conscious heart, and then pondering on what have been said, and subsequently, fear will be erupted, and being patient will be more easy, and causes of seeking treatment will be simple.
However, know verily that, all of these are based on the Tawfīq of Allāh Subhānahu wata’āla
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
