Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Truthfulness, its Essence and Virtue.
It is reported from ‘Abdullāhi bn Mas’ūd Radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Rasūl Salallāhu’alayhi wasallam said:
Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And, a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person….

And know that, the word Truthfulness can be used in different aspects:
Truthfulness in statement: it is recommended that a servant should safeguard his words from lies and he shouldn’t alter except truth.
2). Truthfulness in intention. And this depends on sincerity. If the acts is mixed with seeking worldly gains, then the intention is not truthful.
3). Truthfulness in determination and fulfilling it: as for determination, is like someone who said: if Allāh Ta’āla grants me wealth, I will spend it all in sadaqah, this determination may be truthful or indecisive. As for fulfilling it, is for one to be truthful in his promise without any indecisive state of mind.
4). Truthfulness in deeds, is for one’s outward and inward state become identical to the extent that the outward deeds reflect what is hidden in the heart.
5). Truthfulness in muqāmāt of the Deen: This is the highest level, like Truthfulness in fear, hope, Zuhd, pleasure, love and tawakkul. All these matters have Mabādi'( starting point), goals and essence. Thus, only truthful one attains their essence.
Allāh Ta’āla says:
….ولكن البر من آمن بالله واليوم الآخر….
Sūratu Al-Baqarah.
Amongst the signs of Truthfulness, is for one to hide one’s calamities, obedience, and to also dislike unveiling them to others.
Allāhu A’alām.
Bārakallāhu fīkum.
Jazākumullahu Khayran.
