Imām Ibn Qudāmah Al-Maqdisi-rahimahullāh-
Said:
Virtue of Remembering Death.
It is reported from Abū Hurairah Radiyallāhu anhu who said: the Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
أكثروا ذكر هاذم اللذات: الموت.
You should frequently remember the destroyer of pleasure; that is death.

Al-Hasan Al-Basarī said:
Death has exposed this world, and it left no happiness in the heart of the sensible one.
Whenever you attached your heart to the remembrance of death, the worldly affairs become minute and insignificant in your sight.
It was reported that whenever Ibn ‘Umar Radiyallāhu anhu remembers death, he Shakes and trembles like birds.
Hāmid Al-Qaysarī said:
We all believe that death is true and certain but we have not prepared ourselves for it, we believe that Jannah is true, but we have not worked for it, we believed that Hell is sure, but we have not feared it. Thus, why are you happy? What are you waiting for? Death is the first thing that will come to you before meeting with Allāh, it either brings good or bad tidings. Oh brothers! Move closer to Your Lord.
Know verily that, death is a very serious matter which can only be explain by those who have experienced it, people have neglected it due to their little knowledge about it.
And those who remember death, does so with a heedless heart, and such remembrance has no effect on the heart.
Therefore, the only way out for you is to devote and attach your heart to the remembrance of death with a conscious heart.
Also, you are recommended to remember your peers and predecessor who have passed away before you.
Ibn Mas’ūd Radiyallāhu anhu said:
The successful one is he who is admonished by others’ adversities.
Abu ad-dardah Radiyallāhu anhu said:
Whenever you remember those that have passed away before you, then you should count yourself amongst them.
And you should frequently pay visit to the graveyards, and whenever your heart inclines towards the temporary amusement of the worldly life, then you should remember your departure, and lessen your hope and aspirations.
The Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
كن في الدنيا كأنك غريب أو عابر سبيل.
Be in this Dunya as if you were a stranger or a traveler.
