Imām Ibn Qudāmah -rahimahullāh-
Said:
Virtue of Fear and Hope.
The status of everything is measured by its assistance towards righteousness and success, which is the meeting of Allah Ta’āla and being closed to Him, and anything that can assist in that regard is termed as virtue.
Allah says:
ولكن خاف مقام ربه جنتان
And for him who fear to stand before His Lord are two gardens.
Sūratu Ar-rahmān, verse 46.
And He says:
رضي الله عنهم ورضوا عنه ذلك لمن خشي ربه
Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him, that’s for him who fears His Lord.
And the Prophet Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
Allah Azzawajal says: By My Magnificence and Sublimity, I will never bring two fears nor two safeties together for My servant. If he doesn’t fear Me in this world, I will make him fear Me in the Hereafter, and vice versa.
Transmitted by Abū Na’īm in “Al-Hulyah”(6/98). Shaykh Al-Albānī declared it as Sahih in “As-sahīhah”#742.
And from Ibn ‘Abbās Radiyallāhu anhu who said: The Rasūl Salallāhu alayhi wasallam said:
Two eyes will never be tortured with Fire; the eye that shed tears out of fear of Allah, and the eye that spent the night guarding in the path of Allah.
Transmitted by Imām At-tirmidhī(5/268).
Allāhu A’alam! Bārakallāhu fīkum!
