(Hadith on the virtues of Ramadan)
“On the authority of Abu Huraira -radiaAllahu anhu- who said: The Prophet -sallallaahu alayhi wasallam – ascended the pulpit and he said, “Amīn, amīn, amīn.” It was said, “O Messenger of Allah, you ascended the pulpit and said amīn, amīn, amīn.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Jibril- alayhi sallam – came to me and said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn. Whoever sees his parents in their old age, one or both of them, and he does not honor them and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn. Whoever heard your name mentioned in his presence and he does not send blessings upon you and he dies, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amīn. I said amīn.”

LESSONS FROM THE HADITH
1. The month of Ramadan, dutifulness to ones parent (especially during their old age)
and sending prayers and blessings on the prophet- sallallaahu alayhi wasallam- , are three great opportunities for a believer to earn Allah’s forgiveness.
2. Every believer must strive hard to earn Allah’s forgiveness in this blessed month by taking advantage of it numerous virtues.
3. Ramadan is the best period for one to be dutiful to ones parent as it is more rewarding than other months.
4. It is also the best period to send prayers and blessings on the prophet -sallallaahu alayhi wasallam.
5. In other to save oneself from being casted away from Allah’s mercy and thrown into hellfire, a believer must take the opportunity of Ramadan, must be dutiful to ones parents and must send blessing on the prophet (by saying ‘sallallaahu alayhi wasallam’) whenever he is mentioned.
May Allah accept our Ramadan, grant us His forgiveness and save us from Hellfire, Aameen.
