Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-
Said:
Ibn Mashud radiyallaahu anhu said:
“One who memorizes the Qur’an should be distinguished by his prayer at night while people are sleeping, his fasting in the daytime while people are not fasting, his sadness while people are rejoicing, his weeping while people laughing, his silence while people are indulging in fun and play, and his consciousness of Allah while people are being heedless. He should not be immoral person, heedless, nor one who do get angry easily.”
Al Fudayl Rahimahullaahu said:
” The one who memorizes the Qur’an is the bearer of the banner of Islam. Therefore, he should not indulge in nonsense issues like others, this is due to what he keeps in his heart of the words of Allah. Also, he should not be in need of others favors. Rather, people should be the ones to look forward to his favor. ”
In addition, Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal Rahimahullahu said:
“I have seen the Lord of Mighty in a dream and I said, ‘ O Lord! What is the most virtuous act that devout people should do to bring themselves nearer to You? He said: with my words(I.e reciting the Qur’an), O Ahmad .’ I said, ‘ O Lord! Should it be with understanding? It may be with or without understanding.”
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
