Imaam Ibn Qudaamah Al-Maqdisi -rahimahullaah-
Said:
Know verily that, it is highly recommended for the one who wish to recite the glorious Qur’an to perform ablution, humbly sited and be pure.
The best form of reciting the glorious Qur’an, is for one to recite it while standing in prayer and the recitation should be in the Mosque.
As to the period in which one should finish reciting the whole Qur’an, the pious predecessors were of different stances on this.
Some of them used to finish reciting the whole Qur’an everyday. While Others used to finish it either in three days, seven days, or thirty days. This depends on individual’s situation. It is reported that Imaam Ash-Shaafii’ rahimahullaah used to recite the whole Qur’an sixty times in the month of Ramadan.
Thus, one is recommended to recite the Qur’an as much as he can so long as one does not abandon some important issues (example like searching for knowledge), ponders upon the verses and understands what he recites.
In this context,
Ibn Abbas radiyallaahu anhumah was reported to have said:
“For me to recite Al-Baqarah and Ali- I’mran only with reflecting upon their meanings is beloved to me than reciting the whole Qur’an without pondering on its meanings.”
Ibn Masu’d radiyallaahu said:
” Whosoever finishes reciting the whole Qur’an, his Dua’ will be answered by Allah, the Most High.”
Due to this reason, Anas radiyallaahu used to gather his family and make Dua’ after finishing reciting the whole Qur’an. ”
Allaahu A’alam! Baarakallaahu feekum!
