Q&A (Fatwa)

#900: On Dying The Hair

“Pls is it permissible for a guy to tint hair in islam. Salamualaikum warahmatullah. It’s urgent pls…I just need a yes or no answer..To tint hair Gold….like to change one’s hair colour”

ANSWER:

Wa Alaykum Salām Warahmatullāh Wabarakātuh.

Alhamdulillāh.

The Ulamā are agreed that dying of the hair is permissible in Islām without any disagreement except that the following restrictions are important:

1. That it is not dyed to black. This is because the Fuqahā differed on the Permissibility of the Black Dye

2. That it does not imitate by so doing the appearance that is unique to the Kuffār

3. That the item that is used is not a permanent change to the hair

4. That it does not make an emulation of the opposite sex

5. That the item of the dye is Pure and not Najāsah
