The Virtues Of Ramadan Part II

DAILY POST #183

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah -radiyaLLahu anhu- who said that the messenger of Allah -sallalahu alayhi wasallam- said;
“Whoever fast Ramadan with Iman (faith) and hoping for reward (from Allah ta’ala), will be forgiven for all his previous sins. Whoever stands (for prayer at night) with Iman and hoping for reward (from Allah ta’ala), will be forgiven for his previous sins. Whoever stands (for prayer at night) during Laylatul-Qadr with Iman and hoping for reward (from Allah ta’ala) will be forgiven for his previous sins.
Reported by Bukhari and Muslim.

LESSONS FROM THE HADITH

♦ Among the virtues of Ramadan is that every Muslim who fast stands to have all his or her previous sins forgiven by Allah.

♦ By standing up for prayer at night, most importantly the night of Qadr (Laylatul Qadr) one also stands to have his or her previous sins forgiven.

♦ For us to attain this great reward for our fasting and prayers in this blessed month, firstly, one must have Iman (strong believe) in it’s legislation and obligation in the Shari’ah without any doubt, secondly, they must be done hoping for reward from Allah alone (free from show off, self conceit or observing them out of fear or shyness for someone else) like every other acts of Ibadah.

♦ The sins referred to here are the minor ones since the major sins requires seeking sincere tawbah (active repentance) by following all the necessary conditions required.

May Allah strengthen us for Ibadah and count us among those who would be forgiven in this Ramadan. Aameen.

Don’t forget us in your prayers.
