DAILY POST #112
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu Sa’id Al-khudri radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Avoid sitting by the road side.”They said: O Allah‘s Messenger salallaahu alayhi wasallam, we cannot do without those meeting places in which we converse. So He said:“But if you refuse to keep away from sitting by the road side, then give the road its due rights.”They said: ‘What are the road’s due rights?’ He said: “Lowering your gaze from Haraam, abstaining from harming those that are passing by, returning salam, enjoining the good deeds and forbidding evil deeds.”
Agreed upon. Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his “Sahih”#2465 and Imaam Muslim in his “Sahih”#2121.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following: ٌ
♦ It shows that it is disliked for one to sit by the road side without any tangible reason.
♦ It indicates that if one still insist on sitting by the roadside, then he must safeguard the due rights of the road which are; lowering his gaze from Haraam, abstaining from harming others, returning salam, commanding good deeds and forbidding evil deeds.
♦ It encourages good morals and discourages immorality.
