DAILY POST #45
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu -Hurairah- radiyallaahu anhu – who said: The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:
” None of you should walk with a shoe on a single foot , but should either put them both or take them off both . ” Agreed upon ( by Bukhaari and Muslim ) .
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Bukhaari in his ”Sahih”#5855 and Imaam Muslim in his ” Sahih ” #2097 .
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1 . It is haraam to walk with a shoe on a single foot .Though , some Ulamaa permitted that in terms of darurah( necessity) like shaykh Muhammad bn Saalih Al- Uthaymeen – Rahimahullah .
2 . It shows that it is haraam in Islaam to do a part of the body anything and not do the other part. This is why it is haraam to shave a part of the hair and leave another part, or to wear shoe on a single foot and leave the other, or to sit with one part of the body under the sun e.t.c .
3 . It shows how the Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam cares for the well being of his Ummah . Allah says about the Messenger – salallaahu alayhi wasallam in Surah At-Taubah, Verse 128:ٌ
“Certainly a Messenger has come to you from among yourselves; grievous to him is your falling into distress, excessively respecting you and he is compassionate to the believers ” .
4 . It shows that we should not imitate or copy the disbelievers in their day to day activities . This is because the Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam – said:” none of you …… ” and the disbelievers are not part of us .This implies , if the disbelievers might choose to be walking with a shoe on a single foot , then we should adhere to the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam .
