DAILY POST #94
Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Abu Darda radiyallaahu anhu- who said – The Messenger of Allah -salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Allah hates the extravagant and the outrageous person.”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam At-Tirmidhi in his “Sunan”#2002. And Imaam Al Albani declared the hadith to be Sahih in “Assahiha”#876.
COMMENTARY
The hadith shows the importance of the following:
1. It indicates that Allah hates the profligate or extravagant. Extravagance is to spend more than your needs. This means that extravagance is relative to individuals and is not something that we can put a limit on.
Extravagance is also to spend on ANYTHING that you do not really need or to own anything that is not a necessity. It does not mean that extravagance is merely related to money or expenditures, but it includes all unnecessary use of resources, Time etc.
For instance, for one to be using too much water while performing ablution or leaving food in plate as you filled your plate more than your appetite or even eating too much, all comes under extravagance. Unfortunately, many Muslims nowadays are fond of wasting resources and they are even proud of that. We seek refuge in Allah to save us from this bad act.
2. It shows that Allah hates an obscene speech or behavior. Obscene speech or behavior to alter a word or commit an action that is indecent or lewd. This type of behavior is not among the attributes of a believer.
A believer is always gentle, composed, and he does not speak to people in an offensive manner.
The messenger of Allah salallaahu alayhi wasallam said:
“Gentleness beautifies everything while Harshness disfigures or destroys it.
” The hadith is transmitted by Imaam Muslim.
3. The hadith encourages moral behaviors and discourages any form of immorality.
