عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من لم يدع قول الزور والعمل
بهوالجهل فليس لله حاجة في أن يدع طعامه وشرابه
رواه البخاري
On the authority of Abu Huraira radiyaLLahu anhu who said that the messenger of Allah
salallahu alayhi wasalam said:
“Whoever does not leave false statement, acting upon it and transgression against others, then there surely is no need for Allah in them leaving their food or drink.
Transmitted by Al-Bukhari.
NB. what is meant by ‘transgression’ here is foolishness and imprudence that allow someone to insult others and treat them horribly.
LESSONS FROM THE HADITH
♦ The true fast is the fast of the internal and external organs from every prohibited and shameful acts in Islam and not just the abstinence from eating and drinking.
♦ This is a caution for everyone of us to be very watchful of what we say and do during this month of Ramadan.
♦ In general the real essence of every act Ibaadah is for Taqwa and purification of the soul and not merely for its physical performance.
May Allah the exalted protect us from everything that would have negative effect on our fasting. Aameen.
Don’t forget us in your du’a.
