Imaam Ibn Hajar Al-‘Asqalaani – rahimahullaah – said:
It is reported from Amru – Ibn -Shu’aib ,from his father , from his grandfather radiyallaahu anhum – who said: The Messenger of Allah – salallaahu alayhi wasallam -said :
” Eat , drink , wear clothes and give out sadaqah ( charity ) , but with neither extravagance nor pride .”
Transmitted and recorded by Imaam Abu Dawud in his “Sunan” and Imam Ahmad in his “Musnad ” #6669.
This Hadith teaches us the following:
1 . It shows that extravagance and pride are disliked in Islam .
2. It shows that balancing in spending is beloved in Islam . Allah says about the believers in Surah Al-Furqan, Verse 67:
Those who, when they spend, are not extravagant and not stingy , but hold a just (balance) between those (extremes)
3. It shows that is not part of love to give to the family more than what they need of their necessities in terms of food, clothing e.t.c
4. It shows that extravagance sometimes goes together with arrogance .This is because someone who spent any how might think is above everybody .
